Be super, with Superfoods

[jpshare]

Everyone is talking about “Superfoods” these days! It’s no wonder, because they are delicious, fun and easy to use; they add a vibrant colour and taste to your smoothies or salads.

What Are Superfoods and Why Do You Need Them

Superfoods are foods (either whole or in powdered form) packed with nutrients that offer vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Nutrients found in Superfoods have been associated with helping your body’s metabolic functions function better and thus, improving your general well-being.

Types of Superfoods

Here is a list of some of the Superfoods that can be included in your eating plan:

– Leafy Green Vegetables
Kale, spinach, and broccoli are good sources of antioxidants and nutrients. They have been known to boost your energy levels, improve digestion, manage blood sugar levels and detoxify the body.

– Fruits
Berries such as blueberries are rich in vitamin C, fibre, potassium, and vitamin K.

– Nuts
Nuts are naturally high in good fat content, plus they contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are excellent sources of vitamin E, vitamin K, and dietary fibre.

– Other Superfoods to Look Out for:
Chia seeds are high in protein and dietary fibre.
Moringa powder contains Vitamin A, C, and E which have been associated with relieving inflammation, and aiding in preventing the risk of diabetes.
Cacao powder adds the chocolatey goodness that you’re looking for, without the guilt.
Maca powder has been known to give you an energy boost you might need on those “down” days.

Why Superfoods?

Superfoods are great because of their high nutrient content. They are also versatile and easy to use – most can simply be added to your favourite foods or drinks. For example, you can make your own mochaccino by adding a teaspoon of cacao powder to your coffee (check out this video for an Iced Mochaccino Recipe).

Superfoods are a great addition to a healthy diet that incorporates healthy eating habits, they are not a substitute to compensate for bad eating habits or a bad diet.
