“Healthy Eating is too Expensive!”
Sound familiar? It’s an obstacle many of us have faced, but the good news is that it IS possible to eat well and save money at the same time.
Here’s how…
Prepare.
Buy the week’s groceries ahead of time instead of making impulse buys when you’re hungry and tempted on the way home from work. Take a packed lunch instead of spending at the vending machine.
Don’t waste.
It seems obvious but, if we’re honest, how many of us have forgotten veggies that have gone off in the bottom of the fridge?
Spice things up.
There’s no need for fancy ingredients to make delicious foods. Stock up on a few good all-round spices such as herbs, chilli powder, cinnamon, and paprika. One bottle of spices can go a long way and getting creative with your combinations can give you a countless variety of flavours.
Switch to dried, canned or frozen.
Fresh produce can be expensive so, if you’re strapped for cash, opt for things like dried herbs or frozen berries instead of fresh. If fresh meat cuts can’t fit the budget, canned Tuna or canned Chicken are great sources of protein.
Make Water your new best friend.
Forget expensive soft drinks and switch to water.
Bonus: drinking your 2 litres of water a day will also help you feel fuller for longer, meaning you’ll be less likely to snack.
Shop smart.
Buy local, seasonal foods instead of expensive imports and look out for special deals.
Decide on your priorities.
Ask yourself the question, “what is the price of good health?”
Eat in.
It’s less expensive and you can be 100% sure of every ingredient you use – no hidden sugars for you!
