How to LOVE your weight loss journey (even when it’s difficult)

Embarking on a weight loss journey is not easy. Fact.

It takes a toll, not only physically, but also mentally.

Here are some tips on how to turn your weight loss journey from a chore into something you can love and enjoy!

1. Make it about . . . trying new things

Whether it’s trying a new recipe every week or beginning a yoga class, focusing on trying new things is a great way to make your weight loss journey exciting.

2. Make it about . . . positivity

A lot of the time weight loss is motivated by thoughts like “I’m too flabby”.

Instead of focusing on what you DON’T like, motivate yourself with what you DO like about yourself. Write down 3 things you love about yourself and stick the note somewhere you’ll see it every day.

Make your mantra: “I want to improve my health because I love myself!”

3. Make it about . . . progress

Track your progress as you go. Weekly weigh-ins are a great way to do this.

If you’ve lost, what a great motivator to stay strong for the coming week. If you haven’t, use it as an opportunity to make tweaks to your routine and ensure better results at your next weigh-in.

4. Make it about . . . having fun

Turn your weight loss journey into a challenge … against yourself.

If you’ve lost from one week to the next, treat yourself with a bubble bath. Make yourself a “Cheat Jar” and if you slip up – which is NORMAL – “fine” yourself by putting R10 in the jar.

This way, instead of dreading your weigh-in, or beating yourself up for “cheating”, you have opportunities to win at your own game.

5. Make it about . . . being aware of the benefits

A weight loss journey and healthy lifestyle comes with many benefits over and above reaching your goal weight.

Focus on making yourself aware of the small things – and celebrating them!
Enjoy improved energy by adopting a hobby. If you notice your clothes fit better, dress your best and go for a night out.
